The Freshwater Pearl Mussel and its habitats in Sweden

- A LIFE project

What is LIFE?

The EU’s environmental LIFE fund co-finances environmental protection projects and conservation projects that contribute to implementing and developing the EU’s environmental policies.
The goal of LIFE is to encourage the implementation and development of the EU’s environmental policies by co-financing demonstration projects.
LIFE-Nature is the part of the LIFE programme that co-finances projects aiming at conserving animals, plants or habitats (life environments) that are of particular interest within the EU. These species and habitats are listed in the EU’s Bird Directive and Habitat Directive. Projects receiving financing from LIFE-Nature should contribute to the implementation of Natura 2000.

Financing
The cost of the project is 10 million SEK. The EU´s LIFE Nature fund supports the project with 50% of all costs. The other 50% is jointly financed by The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, project partners and WWF.
